WASPALOY: SUPER STRENGTH NICKEL ALLOY

Waspaloy for #MetalAM on today's #MaterialsMonday 🚀

At Rosswag Engineering we are the only AM service provider with this nickel super alloy in our portfolio. And you can now buy the right process parameter for it on AddiMap - The AM Platform

Waspaloy is a hardenable nickel-base superalloy with very good strength properties at temperatures of up to approx. 980 °C. Due to its good oxidation resistance, the material is frequently used in gas turbines. Additive manufacturing enables a wide range of applications across multiple industries through functional integration at high temperatures.

FAQS: WASPALOY

Find the answers to your most frequently asked questions about Waspaloy.

WHY HAS WASPALOY A HIGH TEMPERTURE STRENGTH?

Waspaloy is composed from the solid elements nickel, cobalt, chromium and molybdenum as well as other alloying elements. It contains age hardening alloying elements like aluminum and titanium. Furthermore, the interaction between the alloying elements and the nickel matrix makes for a resistance to deformation at elevated temperatures.

WHERE IS WASPALOY USED IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY?

Because of its considerable high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance, Waspaloy is used both in the military and commercial aircraft. More specifically, it is used as wing attachments, landing gear parts, in gas turbine engines as the compressor, rotor discs, seals, rings, spacers and other engine hardware, such as nozzles and diffusers or screws and bolts.

WHAT OTHER SUPER NICKEL-BASED ALLOYS EXIST BESIDES WASPALOY?

Besides Waspaloy, there are other super nickel-based alloys such as Inconel 718 and Inconel 901. If you are interested in other metal powders, we are happy to provide you with a customized metal powder.

WHAT ARE THE MECHANIC PROPERTIES OF WASPALOY?

Waspaloy is fully austenitic, offers high-temperature resistance and resistance to aqueous corrosion. Furthermore, it offers high tensile strength to withstand forces without undergoing deformation. Waspaloy´s hardness ranges from 25 to 39 HRC depending on heat treatment and processing. One of the most important abilities of superalloys such as Waspaloy is the creep resistance. The creep resistance is the time-dependent deformation at high temperatures and under constant load. More information about Waspaloy´s poperties can be found here.
